Charity Fundraising
What's New? We are entering the annual Crafty Craft Race 2008 - please sponsor us on-line!
Rotaract West Berkshire has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity over the years. Money has been raised through a variety of ways and many charities have benefitted. Traditionally, a charity is chosen annually and this will be the main focus for any monies
raised during the Rotaract year. Rotaract West Berkshre is a registered charity no. 1027497.
Our nominated Charity for 2007-08 has just been voted for, and we are proud to announce that it will be The Princess Royal Trust for Carers!
We felt that this year we wanted to choose a charity that we felt closer matched the work we do as an organisation. This was the clear winner from the shortlist, and we thought it was important to highlight the tireless members of society who so helplessly care for others. We are also keen that any funds raised will be spent locally, and the funds we raise will be donated in support of the Berkshire branch of the trust.
On Easter Saturday 22nd March 2008 we had a team of Rotaractors in place thoughout the day on Northbrook Street collecting donations in return for Daffodil Pins from shoppers and visitors alike as part of the Great Daffodil Appeal held each March.
It proved to be an extremely successful day despite the sleet, snow, driving wind and bitterly cold conditions - we raised a total of £500 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

2006-07 - The chosen charity was Alzheimer's Dementia Care and Research (West Berks Branch). To date, we estimate that we have raised in excess of £1,000 to be donated in late August/September,
details to be confirmed. £725 was raised at the Royal County of Berkshire Show, another £200 was raised with a Christmas Raffle, and £75 from the
Rotaract Overseas Project Quiz in September 06.
Additionally, we have also raised £30 for the British Heart Foundation by being sponsored to take part in Moonraker, a 10 mile night-hike in the Chilterns.
Another £895 was raised in March via street collections in Newbury town centre and at Sainsburys, plus £450 from collecting at Homebase in June, for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Total Raised 2006-07 = £2,450 (approx)
2005-06 - A particularly busy year, where we raised in excess of £6,000. One of our members was privileged to win a place on the Rotaract Overseas Project '06 team. 8 Rotaractors and a Rotarian
travelled to Benin in West Africa in Jan 2006 to build 3 classrooms to replace ones destroyed by floods. Rotaract West Berkshire are proud to have raised over £4,500 towards the £19,000 cost, and thank the generous support of Rotaract & Rotary Clubs across District 1090 for enabling the project to
succeed.

Another £1,371 was donated to Motor Neurone Disease Association, our charity of the year, plus more funds raised for Marie Curie.
