Each year we choose a Charity of the Year that we will support during the coming Rotaract year.
The charity is normally small and local and we raise money for them at a variety of events ranging from tin-shakes to sponsored sporting events to our own Cheese and Wine Quiz.
We are also a registered charity ourselves and our Registered Charity Number is 1051746.
Thames Hospice is the local charity for people living in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.
They provide expert care to adults who have a life-limiting illness - and their families and carers. They care for the physical, social and psychological needs of our patients, not just the condition. Their highly skilled medical team work with the patient and their families to develop a complete programme of care tailored to their individual needs.
Their services include nursing and medical care in their Hospice at Windsor, Community Therapy Unit in Ascot and in the patients' homes, as well as practical and emotional support.
It costs over £7 million every year to keep their vital services going. They rely on 80% of their costs from charitable donations, which enables them to provide their services free of charge, 365 days a year, to the people who need them.
In recent years we have also supported:
Rosie’s Rainbow Fund supports sick and disabled children in hospital, school and in the community. They provide music therapy for children, aromatherapy and bereavement support for parents and purchase specialist equipment.
Family Friends provide support to families who are facing difficult times and help them to get back on their feet.
Open Kitchen provide food for the homeless, elderly, disadvantaged and isolated who cannot afford to feed themselves. We raised over £1,700 for Open Kitchen!
Braywick run a commercially successful nursery, offering employment and training to people with disabilities or in need of support. We raised over £1,500 for Braywick Heath!
Alexander Devine fund two community paediatric palliative care nurses who support families across Berkshire in their own homes, providing much needed respite, palliative care, emotional and practical support.
